Habitat and Distribution

Found across Australia in timbered habitats.

About the animal:

  • They are a median sized raptor;
  • The eyes are bright yellow;
  • The males are smaller than females;
  • Both parents build a large stick nest and defend their young;
  • They hunt stealthily from a low, concealed perch, using sudden, short bursts of speed to pounce onto prey. Prey items are taken back to a perch.

What they eat?

They eat small mammals and birds.
