Habitat and Distribution

A ground dwelling lizard found in a variety of arid and semi arid areas. Shelters in the interior of grass, animal burrows and under stones.

About the animal:

  • Most arid-adapted with robust head and body and short tail;
  • Brown with narrow orange cross-bands and a black temporal stripe;
  • Can grow to about 40cm;
  • Active early and late in the day;
  • Is viviparous (produces 2 to 4 live young which are about 10cm long).

What they eat?

Diet includes flowers, small vertebrates and insects.
